ABOUT MEDIUM AND TECHNIQUES
Encaustic painting, also know as hot was painting, is an ancient technique dating back to the Greeks. It involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. Metal tools and special brushes can be used to shape the paint before it cools and heated metal tools can be used to manipulate the wax once it has cooled onto the surface. Today, we have modern tools such as heat lamps, heat guns, small irons and other methods of applying heat. The finished painting has rich texture and depth. The light plays off this texture and can make the colors appear differently from different angles.
