We are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream; and no matter where we are from, our dreams are valid. This is the philosophy held by artist and designer, Ala Park, who hails from the Republic of Moldova. No stranger to the pursuit of her own dreams, Park was first educated as a medical doctor, but her passion and propensity to create led her to pursue a career in interior design.

After studying art and design in her native country she has worked as an interior designer, fashion designer, and artist since 1990. The joy and pride she felt was unmatched by any other moments in her preceding professional experiences, working as an internal medicine physician or pharmaceutical marketing specialist.

In 2000 Park launched her own design firm, where she successfully ran all aspects of clients needs. She developed brand identity, project planning and project execution; designing numerous spaces including restaurants, businesses, company stores, offices etc., but was sought after for her transformative work in private residences as well.

Being an interior and fashion design professional with over 20 years of experience providing exceptional care to clients, demonstrating a history of earning clients’ trust by utilizing excellent customer service skills, anticipating individual’s unique needs and delivering competent and complete services, her work received national recognition, both independently and in conjunction with well known Moldovan architects. The MOLDEXPO Best Project of the Year 2004 award was getting in conjunction with the architect and the Chief Project Architect of Moldova’s National Institute of Research and Design "URBANPROECT” Iurie Hangan for Bachus Dava restaurant project in Chisinau, Moldova.

In 2010 she designed Harvit Pro company's installation for Moldexpo's 17th International Food & Drink exhibition. Out of approximately 79 local and foreign participants, her work was nominated as the best installation of the exhibition. The Park's final project in Moldova accomplished in 2011 for Azamet Group received high praise at Moldexpo’s FARMER 14th International Specialized Exhibition of Agricultural Products, as she was responsible for the entirety of their installation; she crafted Azamet’s brand identity, copywrote promotional materials, in addition to designing and creating the costumes used by Azamet’s subsidiaries at the exhibition.

Aside from her interior design interests and skills, she is an accomplished mixed media artist, her talents truly know no bounds. In 1994 Park has even gone so far as to create an entirely new medium, repurposing discarded fish bones into delicate scenes. The upcycled bones are painted and skillfully placed against a dark velvet background, breathing a new life into the fish. Her fish bone art has been well received in America, and shows in galleries and juried exhibitions across the country.

Park finds joy in artistic expression no matter its creative form, but she is particularly fond of textiles, the craft arts and encaustic painting. Her journey as an encaustic artist began at the turn of the century, when a close friend presented her with a set of wax and heating tools from Holland. Twenty years later Park has perfected her craft and uses encaustic painting as an exercise in improvisation; noting the unique application method as the source of each work's unrepeatability.

When the opportunity for permanent US residency presented itself in 2011, Park relocated to the Denver area. She began studying at Colorado Heights University (CHU) where she successfully presided “Dreamers Ink”, CHU Art Club for over 2 years. There she embarked on the creation of two fashion collections: NEOCycle made from recycled materials and Inheritance New Look, inspired by Romanian tradition and costumes. In a devastating turn of events, Park was diagnosed with cancer. Feeling like this new lease on life had been cut short, she was forced to step back from creating art. Now after the necessary internal dialogue to begin again, she is ready to fly and feed her soul finding a spiritual healing in her art and sewing, which is an essential part of the success of this unfinished battle.”

For Park-art is, “the vibration that creates the connection and balance between [her] inner world and the surrounding one. That is a way to express dreams and inspirations, to capture elusive visions that so easily vanish, and to immortalize them.” She now resides in the mountains of Boulder, with a custom art studio and sewing workshop, and endless possibilities. Her clothing collections and accessories can be found at the Alpaca Connection, located on the historic Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, Colorado.
